PROFILEJessica is a highly experienced Speech and Language Therapist and mum of 3 children. She has extensive skills and knowledge in the field of prevention and early intervention. She is committed to the early support of children so that secondary difficulties can be avoided. Jessica is skilled in empowering parents to effectively develop their child’s communication skills and in training Educational and Health professionals to identify delayed development and the promotion of these skills. QUALIFICATIONS & TRAININGAfter completing a four-year full time degree course at the University of Central England in Birmingham, Jessica qualified in 1997 with a BSc Honours Degree in Speech & Language Pathology and Therapeutics. In 2003 she qualified from City University London with a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Communication. She has also attended numerous courses to expand her professional development, including:
EMPLOYMENT HISTORYSince qualifying Jessica has worked with children with wide ranging communication skills difficulties in a variety of settings including playgroups, nurseries, schools, Child Assessment Units, Children’s Centres and in their homes. In 2000 she specialised in working with young children and held the role of both Specialist and Principal Therapist for Early Years for the NHS Trust she worked for. Her roles involved the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of children, co-ordination of speech and language therapy support into Sure Start Children’s centres, training a wide range of early years service providers and working strategically to improve the communication skills of young children across a large geographical area. KEY SKILLS AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Jessica’s key achievements include the development of new models of service delivery for the NHS focusing on prevention and early intervention. She has worked closely with The National Literacy Trust on the ‘Talk to Your Baby Campaign’ and contributed to their Early Language Advocacy Kit for early years professionals. She has developed screening tools, presented at national conferences as well as written articles for publication. Jessica is a member of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists and the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice. She is registered with The Health Professions Council (registration number SL.04839), the Information Commissioner’s Office (data protection) and is a certified trainer in the delivery of Hanen programmes.
